Efforts for the

2026 Legislative Session

There are five bills (three in the House and two in the Senate) related to ranked choice voting (RCV) that have been introduced for the 2026 legislative session.

  • Ocean State RCV’s TOP PRIORITY is implementing RCV for the presidential primary starting in 2028. We STRONGLY SUPPORT House Bill 7788 (Stewart) and Senate Bill 2590 (Zurier), which would make that happen.
  • We also STRONGLY SUPPORT House Bill 7981 (Kislak) and Senate Bill 2951 (Kallman), which would allow cities and towns to opt into using ranked choice voting in local elections.
  • Finally, we STRONGLY OPPOSE House Bill 7380 (Brien), which would ban ranked choice voting in Rhode Island. This is an assault on voter choice and must be stopped.
